The average tax refund for taxes filed in 2015 was $3,120. Whether you're getting a couple hundred dollars or a couple thousand dollars, using your tax refund towards a down payment on a new home is a wise decision.

Buying a home is an investment towards your future because it builds equity. Plus, a larger down payment means lower interest rates on a mortgage. Home buyers will also receive a larger tax refund in the following year for the write-offs that come with home ownership. It's a win-win.
